3. Now that we know so much about CLASSIFICATION. What do you think that we (humans) are?

5. Some of the things that we learned about mammals can be tricky. We learned that mammals have fur or hair. Does this elephant look like he has hair?

7. Elephants actually do have hair, little wiry hairs spaced out over their head and back. They work differently than our hair and help keep the elephants cool. Look at this picture, elephants are just like people, some have more hair than others!

9. Now, here’s another tricky one. We learned that mammals need to breathe air so, could an mammal live underwater?

10. YES! There are several mammals that live underwater. Dolphins and whales are two of the most recognizable. Have you ever noticed their blow hole on top of their head? That is so they can surface and breathe air!

11. We will talk more about these mammals later but you might be thinking, “Dolphins don’t have hair or fur.” They are actually born with whiskers that fall out soon after they are born.

12. Let’s read a book that I love called Animals Everywhere by Lillian Pluta.
