COMM-6810: Studio Design in HCI Requirements Presentation Ember Anderson & Jennifer Kolassa February 2, 2004

Project Goal We want to transform the tedious, frustrating, time-consuming task of trying clothes on in a store into a more efficient, pleasant task that users will not dread.

Project Context We will observe consumers clothes shopping activities, time them while they try on clothes, etc. for the purpose of gathering information about the actual time/effort it takes to complete the “trying on” process. We will observe fitting room attendants helping shoppers and gathering “uwanted” clothes for the purpose of understanding another perspective in the process (i.e., would transforming the process help more than the consumer?)

Current Scenarios Use oStores currently require (in most instances) shoppers to “help themselves” when it comes to finding out if an item of clothing “looks good.” Users oShoppers must either try their luck with online shopping (the possibility of sending clothes back) or venture into a store and wait in line for dressing rooms, etc.

Current Scenarios (continued) Existing Technologies oThe closest technology to what we are proposing is the current state of online shopping, where a user can filter selections by type, color, price, etc.

Transformed Scenarios Preview of use oStores would now do a body scan of an individual, and then the shopper could determine if the clothing item they’re interested in would fit (where it would be tight, gather, etc.) It would be a way to eliminate items without lugging many choices into a dressing room.

Transformed Scenarios (continued) Preview of technologies oThe technology needed for this new process would include body scanners and user-interfaces for shoppers to scan a clothing item’s barcode, size, etc.
