Purpose of Race to the Top Grant Funds  Improve our ability to assess student learning against rigorous, common core standards  Improve our ability to collect, analyze, and use data to inform classroom instruction, guide professional development of teachers and administrators, and link compensation to performance  Create evaluations of teacher and administrator performance that are strongly linked to student learning outcomes  Transform our lowest performing schools to high performing schools

Turning Around the Lowest-Achieving Schools Expand opportunities for students to attend career and professional academies, especially STEM academies Expand or introduce proven programs to encourage advanced classes, positive behavior support systems, mentoring, and curricula that provide high-need students with college-ready, career-ready, or other postsecondary skills

RTTT’s Impact on Postsecondary Education Over forty states and the District of Columbia have adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) –$350 million of Race to the Top Fund set aside for awards to consortia of states to design and develop common K-12 assessment systems aligned to common, college- and career-ready standards –Administer new assessments statewide by 2014-2015
