3. Causes In 1975 Communist rebels called the Khmer Rouge set up a brutal government Under the leadership of Pol Pot 2 million people were slaughtered in an attempt to turn Cambodia into a rural society This slaughter was almost a quarter of Cambodia’s population

4. Actions In 1978 the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia to overthrow the Khmer Rouge Vietnamese withdrew in 1989 In 1993 Cambodia adopted a democratic constitution and held a free election Pol Pot was captured in 1997 for the human right violations he committed
