2 Welcome to High School!! THREE SIMPLE STEPS: KNOW High School Graduation Requirements College Entrance Requirements PLAN College acceptance is a PLAN, not a DREAM ENGAGE Be involved! Be an active member of your school

3 At the end of the year you should have:
High School Credits Each class per semester = 5 credits Each class per year = 10 credits If there are 6 periods in a day, how many credits should your student earn every year? Answer: 60 credits At the end of the year you should have: 9th grade 55 credits 10th grade 110 credits 11th grade 165 credits 12th grade 220 credits to graduate 

University of California/ California State University A-G requirements …To prepare every student to meet the A-G College Entrance requirement A. History- 2 years A-G World History: 1 year for high school graduation U.S. History: 1 year for high school graduation B. English- 4 years A-G English 1-4: 4 years for high school graduation

C. Mathematics- 3 years A-G (with minimum of Algebra II) 3 years for high school graduation D. Laboratory Science- 2 years A-G 1 year of biological science for high school graduation 1 year of physical science for high school graduation _ 1 year additional science for high school graduation _ 3 YEARS TOTAL TO GRADUATE

E. World Language- 2 years A-G (same language) _ No World Language requirement for high school graduation, but… _ 50 credits of ELECTIVES required for high school graduation F. Visual & Perf. Arts- 1 year A-G _ 1 year required for high school graduation G. College Prep Elective- 1 year A-G _ credits of ELECTIVES required for high school graduation *MUST RECEIVE “C” OR BETTER IN ALL A-G COURSES*

Advancement Via Individual Determination Puente Cardinal Advanced Placement Program March 18, 3:15-5:15 (register wuhsd.org/whs) Seal of Biliteracy Academic Competition (Mock Trial, Model UN, Decathlon, Speech and Debate) Cardinal Computer Academy

8 Advanced Placement Courses
College-level courses taught in high school Highest level courses offered in WUHSD (higher than honors) Receive +1 grade point into GPA calculations Students can take AP Exams and earn college credit with passing scores WHS offers 18 different AP courses 40% of WHS students are in at least 1 AP/Honors course

9 9th Grade Course Selection
4 Mandatory courses: English Math Science Physical Education (PE for 9th Grade is State Law) 2 Elective courses Honors English may pair with AP Human Geography or Ancient Civilizations-Honors Placement exam is administered at middle schools in April/May

10 Citizenship, Leadership, Achievement, Self-Respect, Service
School Climate Associated Student Body (ASB) Class Council Athletics- Grades Matter! Academic Mentors/Senators Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Cardinals with CLASS Citizenship, Leadership, Achievement, Self-Respect, Service

Parent Power WHS: 6/23, 24, 27 Fall Enrollment (Program Pick-Up) WHS:7/30 Freshman First Day August 11 First Day of School August 12 Semester 1 ends before Winter Break!
