Oneida Indians By: Ana Caicedo, Rodrigo Coriat, and Laura Piedrahita

Oneida is one of the biggest tribes in USA and is very important because one of the groups that were in the Iroquois Confederacy, that we will talk later about it. We are going to tell about culture and how Oneidas changed when the Europeans settle their lands. We hope all of us can learn a lot about them.Introduction

Location -Northeast part of U.S.A in New York State. -They lots of forest open lands. -Have famous houses called long houses.

George Washington -was essential in the history of the oneida tribe because he helped oneida win the mini civil war between the tribes inside the iroquis confederacy.

Affecting decisions from Europeans -End of Iroquois confederacy. -Trades started with the Europeans. - from a peaceful relation between the tribes to war

Long Term Effects -Iroquois confederacy civil war between the Americans and British. Each tribe had to join some of the two. - Americans won, Oneidas were at the Americans tribe.

Europeans -Europeans brought in diseases, started small wars, they started colonizing and made indians work.

Clothing -men wore breechcloths with leggings. -women wore overdress. -all of oneida use mocassins.

Food -Oneidas were farming people,planted corn,beans, and squash. -hunted deer,elk and fished.

Science and technology -lived in longhouses:hoses of the iroquis people. -used bows and arrows

Language -they speak English today but the past language was named Oneida now they say its an endangered language because they are very little speakers.

Religion and beliefs - they had different clans that were named by and animal like the wolf clan or the turtle each of the clans animal demonstrated something different.

Our group learned very much about the Oneida tribe and we discover that they are very talented people that changed many culture of the USA. We were very surprised when we find out how Europeans make them change all their culture. We liked and enjoyed to study about them and we hope you have enjoy our presentation, too. Conclusion

What do Oneida means? Oneida comes from their own tribe word, Onyota’aka, which means “People of the standing stone”.
