The Drops of Life

Rotary is a Strong Force for Good in the World 34,000 potential partners throughout the World The Rotary Foundation spent over $175 million last year doing good in the world

TRF program expenditures: Educational programs $ 21,956 Humanitarian programs $50,901 PolioPlus programs $76,059 Rotary grants $26,439 Other programs $1,154 Total TRF program expenditures $176,509

Why These Six Areas of Focus?  300,000 women die each year giving birth  2.6 million babies are stillborn each year  Another 2.9 million die within a month  700,000 children die each year from diarrhea- 2,000 every day  1,400,000 children die from other water-born illnesses- 4,000 every day  775 million adults in the world are illiterate  Wars and terrorism ravage people all over the world  21% of the world’s population lives in extreme poverty- almost 1.5 billion people

Extreme Poverty “A condition characterized by severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education and information.”

ROTARY Rotary and Rotarians are dedicated to the proposition that individuals and small communities can make a difference in the world if we work together

How We Stack Up 2013-14 Rotary Year: The six districts averaged $99.84/Rotarian EXCELLENT!

But…… Only 29% of Rotarians gave to TRF last year There were 42 clubs (out of 325) in the six districts that didn’t give one dollar to TRF last year There were 108 clubs that gave under $1000

What can we do… Start to change the culture in your clubs to one that actively supports The Rotary Foundation Change the culture in your Districts to one that actively supports The Rotary Foundation

YOUR CLUBS NEED TO SET GOALS Clubs that set a goal have had a per capita giving of just over $100—approximately 110% higher than clubs that did not set a goal.

YOUR CLUBS NEED TO PROVIDE AN EASY GIVING VEHICLE One of the biggest stimulants to giving to The Rotary Foundation is providing an easy way to give: Rotary Direct Mandatory dues inclusion Voluntary dues inclusion

YOUR CLUBS NEED TO PROVIDE RECOGNITION Paul Harris Fellow Paul Harris Society Major Donor Bequest Society Arch Klumph Society

YOUR CLUBS NEED TO PUT SOMEONE IN CHARGE Appoint a Rotary Foundation Chair Appoint a Rotary Foundation Committee

FUNDAMENTALS These four fundamentals are the key to changing the culture in clubs that don’t give:  Set a Goal  Provide an easy Giving Vehicle  Make sure your clubs recognize their donors  Make sure your clubs have a Foundation Chair and a Foundation Committee

How do you make that happen?

Show Up My namesake Woody Allen once said that 80% of life is just showing up. In this case, 100% of your success with your clubs involves showing up at the clubs. There is nothing like face-to- face contact.

You gotta’ know the territory “Professor” Harold Hill knew that what you know is important, but who you know is essential when you’re trying to make a sale. If you don’t know the players, it’s hard to convince them to change.

Connect the Dots Have other clubs in your area had success in using Foundation money for their projects? Use successful projects to connect the dots for clubs who don’t give.

Competition Works Don’t be afraid to let all the clubs in your area know how the others are doing. Competitive juices can work wonders.

Rely on your Team You have a District team behind you willing to help  District Governor  DRFC  District Foundation Committee Ask for help early and often.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

TIME MACHINE Set the controls for July 1, 2016 You have written your reports on all your clubs and sent them to your DG. What do the reports show concerning Foundation giving?

July 1, 2016 You have made at least four visits to each of your clubs. You have established good relationships with the club President, the Board members, and other influential people in the club

July 1, 2016 You have reminded them of the miracles made possible through the power of The Rotary Foundation through telling them about other projects in your area, your District, and throughout the world

July 1, 2016 You have demonstrated to them that other clubs in your area have had great success in raising money and doing good in their world

July 1, 2016 Your club Presidents and their respective Boards of Directors all established Foundation goals for APF and Polio Plus giving.

JULY 1, 2016 They also authorized a place on the dues notice for a voluntary gift to TRF

July 1, 2016 Your clubs all now have Foundation Chairs and Committees. They formulated plans to achieve the goals set by the board

July 1, 2016 They included the following:  Informing the club regularly about TRF and Polio Plus  Urging every member to donate this year  Asking those who can do more to become Paul Harris Society members or Major Donors  Educating their members about Rotary Direct, the easiest way to give

Paul Harris Points They have discovered that their club has unused Paul Harris Points, or there are members who will donate points, and they used them to match donations and create new Paul Harris Fellows in their clubs.

July 1, 2016 They have celebrated their donors gifts with a dinner, or a party, or a special acknowledgment of some kind, which includes bestowing the usual Rotary pins, medals, etc

July 1, 2016 In short, the clubs in your area have had their most successful year of Foundation fundraising…. EVER!

March 19, 2015

The hard work to achieve that vision of the future starts in the present. In fact, it starts here and now at MidSouth PETS

Let’s review the bidding To change the culture in a club, the four fundamentals are:  Set a Goal  Provide an easy Giving Vehicle  Make sure your clubs recognize their donors  Make sure your clubs have a Foundation Chair and a Foundation Committee

How do you do that?  Face to face contact  Establish relationships with the important players at your clubs  Connect the dots between Foundation giving and successful projects  Competition is your friend

THE FUTURE IS NOW!
