Achievements: Became consul in 460 B.C. Became dictator of Rome in 458 B.C. and 439 B.C. Resigned the dictatorship after a few days Known as a man of virtue

3 Rise to Dictatorship 458 B.C. Romans were at war with the Aequi
Rome in a dire situation- Roman army was trapped by the Aequi Senators went to Cincinnatus’s farm and told him that he was nominated dictator for 6 months

4 Roman Victory Defeated the Aequi in the Battle of Mons Algidus
Cincinnatus forced the losers to walk under a yoke Aequians humiliated Cincinnatus gave up dictatorship 16 days after his nomination (even though he had 6 months) Yeah, that’s a yoke.

5 Second Dictatorship 438 B.C.*
Became dictator a second time because of a grain distribution scandal Was about 80 years old at the time Spurius Maelius was rumored to be appealing to the people by giving out grain in order to support his ambitions as king Maelius crushed by Cincinnatus *Second dictatorship is questioned by scholars
