The Call of Christ

“Followed”: ekoloútheesan ( h)kolou/qhsan ). From the root word akoloutheo. “A” (a particle of union) + “keleuthos” (a road or a way). To be united with the road or in union with a way, one going in the same way with or accompanying another.

If you are never willing to leave your comfort zone you will never discover the life God intends for you.

There is that road that defined the Son of God’s journey, from heaven to Bethlehem and ultimately the road through Jerusalem that led to Golgotha.

When the call of Christ comes it takes precedence over any other activity, honorable or not.

To forsake all without following Christ is to be a mere philosopher. To forsake all without following Christ is to be a mere philosopher.

To follow Christ without forsaking all is to be merely a Christian. To follow Christ without forsaking all is to be merely a Christian.

To forsake all without following Christ is to be a mere philosopher. To forsake all without following Christ is to be a mere philosopher. To follow Christ without forsaking all is to be merely a Christian. To follow Christ without forsaking all is to be merely a Christian. But to follow Christ and forsake all is the perfection of a Christian. But to follow Christ and forsake all is the perfection of a Christian.

Heb 11:8, “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.”

When God’s people answer His call they won’t know where it leads… but they know Who it is they follow and that is enough.

The same power is at work behind a gentle “follow me” as was behind a bold shout such as “Lazarus, come forth!” – The power to make willing.

Psa 110:3, “Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power.” (In the day of battle!)

Mat 9:9, “As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.”

Luke 9:62, “But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Be wary of anything in the past that calls to you over your relationship to Jesus Christ.

Mat 4:19 “Deúte opísoo mou”Mat 4:19 “Deúte opísoo mou” Opisoo - behind Mat 11:28 “Deúte prós me” pros – nearness (destination)Mat 11:28 “Deúte prós me” pros – nearness (destination)

Jer 6:16, “Thus says the Lord, “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; and you will find rest for your souls.”

The real burden this call lifts from us all is the weight of the sin nature and its relentless ability to drag us down.

Who more than Jesus has the power, the compassion and the gentleness to lift your burdens, to set your soul at ease and to keep your hand on the plow with the kingdom of God always in view?

Psa 55:22, “Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”

Isa 32:17, “And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.”

Grace Offering 2 Cor 9:6-8, “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.”
