How Can We Know God? We know God, because He revealed Himself to us through the Bible. We cannot know Him any other way God is creator, holy and righteous One, Lord, Savior, rewarder of faith/obedience, judge of sin/disobedience God’s communicable and incommunicable attributes are revealed in Scripture

Significance of the Bible I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. (Psalm 138:2, ESV)

Why the Properties of God? 1.Bible is inspired / God-breathed (Acts 1:16) –All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16) 2.Bible is God’s Word –For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. (1 Thessalonians 2:13)

The Properties of God 1.Bible is sacred (2 Timothy 3:15), holy (Romans 1:2), righteous (Romans 7:12), and pure (Psalm 12:6) and should be reverenced 2.Bible is eternal (Matthew 24:35) –Endures forever (Isaiah 40:8, 1 Peter 1:25) 3.Bible is unchanging (Psalm 119:89) 4.Bible is perfect (Psalm 19:7) –Infallible (Psalm 119:160) –Inerrant (2 Peter 1:20-21)

The Properties of God 5.Bible is truth (John 17:17) –Bible is the plumb line (Acts 17:11, Mark 7:9,13) –Trustworthy (Psalm 119:160) –Bible is unbreakable (John 10:34-36) 6.Bible is sufficient (2 Timothy 3:17, 2 Peter 1:3) 7.Bible is authoritative (Matthew 4:4 - Jesus’ three responses; Psalm 119:89) –Many people today pick and choose –Listen, O heavens, and hear, O earth; For the LORD speaks (Isaiah 1:2)

Group Discussion 1.How will this knowledge of God’s Word impact the way you read it? How should it impact our view of ministry? 2.How should we live in our culture knowing that the Bible is eternal and unchanging? 3.What does it mean that the Bible is sufficient and authoritative? How should these beliefs look in the life of a Christian? 4.What is the significance of not living by bread alone but by every Word from the Father (Deuteronomy 8:3)? 5.How does a life look when a person delights in God’s commandments (Psalm 119:47)?
