8. T ERRORIST GROUPS The Black Hand was a secret military organization that was founded in Serbia whose purpose was to reunite the Slavs under Austria- Hungarian rule. The Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka were muslims who seeked independence from the Hindu majority. Their conflict lasted from 1976 to 2009,with millions of casualties. Al-Qaeda(the base) led by Osama bin laden, planned the 2001 terrorist attacks at the world trade center and the pentagon. After Operation Enduring Freedom, Al-Qaeda fled to Northwest Pakistan to regroup.
