Eligibility At least three years experience as a pre- K-12 classroom teacher or school counselor in a public or private school A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution A valid teaching license or a license to practice as a school counselor 11 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

The certification process… Is a two-part assessment Can be completed in one year, with up to 3 years to certify Is based on standards in each certificate area 9 months to complete written portfolio 6 30 minute constructed response exercises scheduled at a computer- based assessment center 12 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

Financial Responsibility 17 $65 application fee $500 up front portion of the assessment fee $750 of the assessment fee by December 31, 2011 Candidates send in subsidy application to Vicky Duff for the other $1,250 assessment fee. Vicky applies through National Board to secure this for each candidate. The district is in the process of working with our Board of Education to support this process with resources such as money and professional development time; however, specific parameters have not been established as of yet. If you are interested in becoming an NBCT, please do not let the financial obligation hinder your interest at this time.
