Environment and Natural Resources Some resources, like oil, can be used up and cannot be replaced unless found in another place (non-renewable) Other resources, like trees, can be replanted (renewable) Recycle, reduce, and reuse

Need vs. Wants Need: must have to survive –Home, money for food, exercise, school and work clothes for each family member, car to drive to work Wants: extra things acquired to make life more enjoyable –Use of the family car, cell phone, dessert, newest CD, iPod, private bathroom

Flexible Expense vs. Fixed Expense Flexible: Can change from month to month –Phone bill, clothing expenses Fixed: same every time –monthly car payment

Time Management Planning: to-do-list; use time wisely (time is a non-renewable resource) Organizing (gather materials) Implementing (work to complete task) Evaluating (was plan successful)

Short-term vs. long-term goal Short-term: plan for something that will happen soon –Decide which dress to buy for prom –Get through the end of the school term Long-term: plan for something that will happen at a later date –Save to buy a car (set aside money from weekly paycheck) –Graduate from High School –Graduate from college
