I.C.S What is it? Why is it necessary? What happened in Critical Incidents before I.C.S.

ICS Is a standardized management tool for meeting the demands of small or large emergencies or non emergency situations. Represents “best practices” and has become the standard for emergency management across the United States. May be used for planned events, natural disasters, and incidents of terrorism. Incident Command System is a “key” feature in NIMS.

Unified Command Coordinates efforts of many jurisdictions or agencies and provides combined decisions on objectives, plans, strategies, priorities, and public communications. Advantages of Unified Command What occurs at an incident where no Unified Command is established.

Advantages of Unified Command Single set of objectives Collective approach to develop a resolution. Information flow and coordination improved between all jurisdictions All agencies with responsibilities have an understanding of joint priorities and restrictions. No agency’s legal authority is compromised Combined efforts optimized under single Incident Command.
