OBJECTIVES Recognize the value of treated wastewater as a stable and sustainable new source of water. Discuss the environmental, socio-cultural, political, conceptual and other aspects of wastewater reuse, facing knowledge gaps and conservative attitudes. Wastewater Management in Israel More than 93% of the wastewater are treated to secondary and tertiary quality. Currently 36% are tertiary while the target is 90% in 2016. About 80% of the treated wastewater are reused for agriculture. The target is 90% in less than 5 years
4
Water is too precious to be used only once! Actions that stimulated the achievements: Clear governmental policy that included legislation along with financial incentives New regulation - standards for unrestricted agricultural irrigation Reclamation plant
5
Suggested Global Goals Wastewater that is not collected safely from households Wastewater that is discharged into the natural environment Urban wastewater that is treated for safe reuse in agriculture and industrial processes Amount of water pollution arising from agriculture and industry By 2025, to double (increase/reduce) the percentage of: By 2025, to double / reduce the percentage of tailoring to local requirements and conditions.
6
