Hose Coupling Safety
3
It is important to fully inspect the overall hose assembly both prior to installation, and also after the installation.
4
Check for missing Cam Arms
5
Check for broken cam arms
6
Be sure cam arms are fully closed.
7
Check for worn, or missing gaskets.
8
Be sure helix wire is properly trimmed.
9
Securing cam arms in the closed position should only be done with fittings made for that purpose.
10
Never use common pipe nipples instead of properly barbed hose coupling stems.
11
Never use tape on a hose cover. It hides potential disaster.
12
“So…whatcha hidin’ under the tape? Taping a hose cover hides pending disaster.
13
Never use unvalved quick couplers for steam service.
14
Never use cam & groove fittings for steam service.
15
Make sure coupling shank is fully inserted in hose assembly.
16
Horizontal connections can be detrimental to the service life of the hose assembly.
17
Exceeding recommended bend radius is detrimental to service life of hose, as well as being dangerous to operators and equipment. Clamp has been over-tightened
18
Clamp fingers properly engage fitting Boss clamping collar. Clamp sections do not touch …. plenty of room for adjustment. Warning label installed.
19
Clamp fingers “bottomed out” on neck of fitting. Clamp sections touching each other.
20
Check for missing, or loose nuts & bolts.
21
Beware of sharp protrusions that may cut the hands of the operator.
22
Using external clamping devices on Push-On fittings will cut the tube stock of the hose.
23
Band clamp buckles in alignment can be the cause of straight line leaks between the hose tube and the fitting stem. Always offset clamp buckles.
24
Inspection… Repair… Replacement
25
Impropercouplinginsertion Hose cover severely weather-checked. Assembly should be removed from service immediately.
26
Improperly stored hose assemblies can cause accidents, as well as be the target for destruction by traffic flow.
