2 The Project’s Learning Targets.... Conduct research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation. Present information, findings, and supporting evidence such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays of data to express information and enhance understanding of presentations.

3 Quick Facts About the Project.... Interviewing a local veteran Creating a visual presentation Incorporating Multi-media Sharing presentation with class Setting up presentation in small gym for the community to view during our Veteran’s Day assembly on 11/9/12

4 Before We Get Into the Project.... As I ask each question, raise the color of card that corresponds with your answer Red = NoWhite= UnsureBlue=Yes A Veteran is someone who fought in a war Only people serving in the army are Veterans Veterans should be considered heroes Veteran’s Day is a day set aside to remember those who have died in battle All Veterans are male It is important to recognize the sacrifices Veteran’s have made I know a Veteran

5 Getting Set Up.... Divide your whiteboard into four boxes: KS AW

6 3 Minute Think.... On your white board, complete the “What I Know about it” “A Symbol to represent it” “Adjectives to describe it” boxes of your chart based off of the following word: Veteran

7 2 Minute Pair & Share.... With your elbow partner, share the K, S, and A boxes you each filled out Analyze & Discuss: Are your boxes similar? Different? Why?

8 Class Share-Out #1.... Tell me something your partner wrote down Complete the question: When (name of your partner) thinks of the word Veteran, (something from their K, S or A box), comes to mind because....

10 Class Share-Out #2.... Tell me something that you added to your whiteboard, and why.

11 In Your Groups.... In your groups, discuss the importance of America’s Veterans. Analyze: the sacrifices they have made the bravery they have shown the respect in which they deserve On your group’s whiteboard, create some kind of response to at least one of the prompts above (a drawing, a thesis statement, a graphic organizer, and idea, etc.)

12 Class Share-Out #3.... Choose one representative from your group to share your whiteboard to the class
