2  Get into groups of 6, 5 of you are newsroom reporters, the other is the reporter out on location (where the news is happening)  Newsroom reporters, you will listen to a short news item about the earthquake and need to report back to the reporter who is on location. Those location reporters will go into the Aniwhaniwa Room  Newsroom reporters, you need to remember as many details as possible, as you will be retelling this information to the location reporter so they can go live with a news report

3 Tips:  write notes  Notes are short sentences or just a couple of words about the most important information  For example the sentence, One of the biggest earthquakes the world has ever seen has brought widespread devastation to the North East of Japan could be written in note form by writing Devastation North East Japan

5 1. Write a headline, or title, for your story. It’s okay to save this for last if you can’t think of one. 2. Write the lead. The lead is the beginning of a news story. It pulls the reader into the story and makes him or her want to read more. 3. Next, include facts that help explain the event. 4. Add details give more information about the event. 5. Include quotes in your story. A quote is someone else’s exact words. 6. Finally, write a conclusion that ends your story with new and important information. 7. Once you have finished your news story, be sure to review your writing.
