What is a Leadership Academy? A Leadership Academy should: Set up courses that give appropriate qualifications and awards for Young Leaders to support their volunteering. Provide opportunities for Young Leaders to learn from their peers. Share with Young Leaders a wide menu of volunteer opportunities (in community sport, for events and organisations) and prepare and support them to undertake appropriate placements and volunteer experiences. Provide mentoring support to Young Leaders on a group and an individual basis. Celebrate and reward the contribution that Young Leaders make to community sport.

Who is the LA suitable for? The Leadership Academy aims to provide a programme of support and training that reflects the needs of its members and the variety of roles that they may be undertaking, e.g. coaching, officiating, events, team manager, sports administration and IT/Media.

What is the format of a LA? 3 hour launch event on Wednesday 24 th February 2010 (4.30-7.30pm) Follow up meetings at least once every 4 weeks with College Mentor (either as a group or individual) Attendance at least 1 of the following certificated courses: Safeguarding & Protecting Children Equity in your Coaching An introduction to the FUNdamentals of movement (multiskills) Emergency First Aid

National Step into Sport Volunteers Awards KS4/5 School-based Volunteers (Step IN) KS5 Community-based Volunteers (Step OUT) School Bronze – 50 Hours School Silver – 100 Hours School Gold – 200 Hours (volunteering takes place inside school-gates) Community Bronze – 50 Hours Community Silver – 100 Hours Community Gold – 200 Hours (volunteering takes place outside of school gates) Dame Kelly Holmes Double Gold Award (200 in School + 200 in Community or 400 in Community) 400 Hours

What do I need to do to get involved? Complete the application form Begin to think about where you’d be interested in volunteering and what type of role you’d like to take on – don’t worry if you don’t have any ideas, the first LA meeting will provide you with some ideas and solutions! Get yourself along to the Leadership Academy launch
