Takeaways Call trees are very important for notifying staff of a situation Redundancy, redundancy, redundancy Landline phones play an important communications role following an extended power outage Think in terms of upstream and downstream communication Communication strategies should include high tech (smartphones, iPads) to no tech solutions (runners can be an important part of a strategy as they don’t require technology and provide face-to-face communication) Situational reports can promote calming and demonstrate control of the situation Daily usage of communication technology commonly used in disaster is important – just in time training good for tools not used daily, such as walkie talkies Texting and email are the most reliable technology based means of communication during an IMD event Don’t replace something that works
