Art Champions – a programme of temporary projects De La Warr Pavilion Saturday 13 - Sunday 28 June 2015

We are inviting all Art Champions to put forward ideas for exciting temporary projects to be presented in the De La Warr Pavilion building and outside spaces, or online, between Saturday 13 June - Sunday 28 June 2015. At the same time we will be exhibiting Bridget Riley’s paintings in Gallery One, John Stezaker’s films in Gallery Two and Art Champions Manifestos in the Rooftop Foyer. Reef 2, Bridget Riley

The programme is adopting the model of Dear Serge - our regular, experimental live art event which uses the De La Warr Pavilion as its context. Dear Serge is a platform for emerging artists to present new works of moving-image, performance, installation and music, which often challenge these definitions.

Your ideas for temporary projects should address what it means to ‘champion art’, as well as the special qualities of the building, our exhibition programme and audiences. Your ideas could involve collaborating with, or commissioning, your peers to produce a project. If you know any undergraduate students or professional artists, filmmakers, designers, writers or performers, you might want to collaborate with or commission them. Interactive Sound Sculpture & Performance, Dan Knight

What is a temporary project? Here are some examples: 1 minute short film/animation 5 minute flash mob 45 minute performance 2 hour workshop e.g. printing/styling Weekend long interventions or exhibitions You need to be realistic about the ideas in terms of costs, timing, budget and health and safety controls, e.g. dangling a heavy object from the rooftop is unlikely to be approved but attaching a lightweight sign may be ok. Physics House Band

How do I put forward an idea? Please make a powerpoint presentation (no bigger than 6 MB) which includes: A clear description of the project to include details of any partners A plan for how the project will be produced to include preferred location, outline costs and technical requirements A schedule for the development of the project to include the preferred dates and duration of project Visual support as sketches, collages, storyboards etc. Fabricating Gender, Jodie Violet

Please send your powerpoint from your teacher’s email address and not via a file transfer site. Mark the subject ART CHAMPIONS and send to ashley.mccormick@dlwp.com Please submit your ideas by 10 a.m. on 30th January 2015 Felix the Cat, Mark Leckey

Will the ideas really be produced? Your ideas will initially be assessed by your peer Art Champions and subsequently by representatives of De La Warr Pavilion, who will chose up to five proposals and award £100 towards production costs of each project, as well as support with production. Broken Dance (Beat Boxed), Sean Gladwell
