1 Six types of skill-related fitness HOPE Segment One

2 What is physical fitness? Physical fitness is the ability to perform daily physical activities without becoming short of breath, sore or overly tired.

3 Skilled Related Fitness There are six skill related fitness components: 1. Agility 2. Balance 3. Coordination 4. Speed 5. Power 6. Reaction Time

4 Agility Agility is the ability to change the direction and position quickly. Example: Shuttle run and hitting a tennis ball.

5 Balance Balance is the ability to control or stabilize the body when a person is standing still or moving. Example: Gymnastics and cheerleading

6 Coordination Coordination is the ability to use senses together with body parts during movement. Example: Dribbling the basketball, catching the football and hitting the tennis ball.

7 Speed Speed is the ability to move your body or parts of your body fast. Example: A basketball player making a fast break, football player out running a defense and a soccer player running down the field to score a goal.

8 Power Power is the ability to move the body parts swiftly while applying the maximum force of the muscles. Example: Volleyball players getting up to the net and lifting their bodies high into the air.

9 Reaction Time Reaction time is the ability to reach or respond quickly to what you hear, see or feel. Example: An athlete quickly coming off the blocks early in a swimming or track relay or stealing a base in baseball.
