1 The Fruit of Rebellion Lesson 19
2
2 How do you feel when someone is mean to you or doesn’t appreciate what you do?
3
3 Jesus told the Jewish leaders that their house (the temple) was left unto them desolate. Matthew 23:38 And they found that hard to believe.
4
4 Their temple was magnificent. It had taken many years and thousands of workmen to build. It was strong, with many pillars and large gates. How could it be desolate?

6
6 Some leaders felt Jesus did not know what he was talking about and was just trying to cause trouble. 6
7
7 Others laughed about what he said and made fun of him. 7
8
8 Some people listened, without saying anything, 8
9
9 while others talked about him among themselves.
10
10 Many people felt he wasn’t very smart and that they knew more than he knew,
11
11 while others wondered what difference it made.
12
12 The leaders loudly proclaimed it couldn’t be true! 12
13
13 The rulers thought they knew more than Jesus. 13
14
14 Most Jewish people found what Jesus said hard to believe. 14
15
15 Yet within forty years the temple and all of Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman army.
16
16
17
17 The Jewish people weren’t laughing now, but about forty years earlier, Jesus was very sad about what he knew was going to happen, and he said he had wanted to gather his children together, but they would not. Matthew 23:37

20 Before Jerusalem was destroyed, however, the Jewish leaders tried to destroy Christianity, beginning with the stoning of Stephen.

22
22 After the destruction of the temple and of Jerusalem by the Roman army under the leadership of General Titus, the Roman army attacked Masada, a place where Jewish people were refusing to surrender to the Romans.
23
23 This is General Titus. He later became Emperor Titus.

27 “The Saviour’s prophecy concerning the visitation of judgments upon Jerusalem is to have another fulfillment, of which the terrible desolation was but a faint shadow. In the fate of the chosen city we may behold the doom of a world that has rejected God’s mercy and trampled upon his law.” The Great Controversy, p. 36
28
28 “But a scene yet darker is presented in the revelations of the future.... what are these in contrast with the terrors of that day when the restraining Spirit of God shall be wholly withdrawn from the wicked.... (Ibid., pp. 36, 37)
29
29 Juniors will be living during the time that Jesus’ prophecy will be fulfilled again. Maybe it will be during your time of life! Wouldn’t that be exciting?
30
30 If you are, you will need to read your Bible and pray every day. And when your parents tell you you cannot do something that you really want to do, remember they don’t let you that because they love you and want you to be ready for Jesus’ return.
