1. Power - Men battled for power after Sulla - First Triumvirate (Crassus, Pompey, Julius Caesar)

2. Caesar’s Military Campaign’s - Each member of the Triumvirate commanded an area of the republic - Caesar popular among the lower class, feared by the Senate - Crassus killed in battle, Pompey would rule alone - Senate told Caesar to give up his army

- Caesar held on to his army, crossed the Rubicon River, and drove Pompey’s forces out of Italy - Caesar made dictator for a year - Later declared himself dictator for life

3. Caesar’s Rise to Power - Fixed many problems at home, becoming more popular with the lower class - His enemies feared he wanted to be king - Brutus and Cassius led a plot to have him killed - Caesar stabbed at the Senate in 44 B.C.
