This information will provide a structure and overview of major concepts from the point of view of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Consider adding notes from classes to First Aid. (Optional: Consider using practice Step 1 questions in conjunction with each course.) Goal: Read First Aid at least once by the end of second year. Use First Aid and USMLE World electronic question banks as core Step 1 study materials during the May-June study period following second year. Identify weak areas and use subject-specific review materials (Board Review Series, Lippincott for pharmacology or pathology).

Take a practice test to establish a baseline and to identify which areas (weak areas) you will study first. Take additional practice tests periodically to check your progress. Consider practice tests as tools to monitor your progress toward taking the actual test. Develop a feasible plan of study that includes reading/studying, doing questions in question banks, and ongoing review of topics already studied. Do random questions in 50 minute blocks (question bank). Review correct and incorrect answers and understand why the correct answer is correct and why others are wrong. Keep a running list of topics that will require additional study.
