Communication is the sending and receiving of messages

Ways WE Communicate… Written Communication- Communication that must be read. Verbal Communication- Communication that is spoken. Nonverbal Communication- Facial expression or body movements Symbol- Anything that stands for an idea.

Intrapersonal Communication- Inner dialogue with yourself in order to assess your thoughts, feelings, and reactions.

What is Communication? It is the process of sending and receiving messages. Components –Sender- Noise –Message –Channel –Receiver –Feedback

Components of the Communication Process Sender – one who originates the message Message – that which is sent or said; can be words, either spoken or written, body language, and/or symbols that convey an idea Receiver – the one for whom the message is intended. The receiver should intercept the message, decode and interpret the message.

Components of the Communication Process Feedback – response to the sender’s message Channel – method or way the message is sent –Auditory channels –Visual channels Noise or Communication Barrier – anything that gets in the way of the effective communication

What’s causing these communication barriers? Stereotyping- labeling every person in a group based on a preconceived idea as to what the group represents.

How do we remove these barriers? For the Sender –Think –Articulate –Watch For the Receiver –Ask Questions –Learn more about the issue or person –Relate
