3. Working Partnership It is very important to us that all children feel safe and secure whilst at nursery. It is therefore important for us to have good working relationships with you as their parents. Together we are here to make your child’s time at school an enjoyable, challenging and stimulating experience.

4. Working Partnership Therefore, we aim to establish secure relationships with each child in our care through Key Workers. Each child has a key worker, who will be available for you to speak to; either at the beginning or at the end of each session on alternate days. If you are unsure of who your key worker is please do not hesitate to ask.

How you can support the Prime areas of learning at Home Personal, social & Emotional Development Communication and Language Physical Development Socialising with other children will encourage their making relationships, sharing and turn taking skills. Encouraging your children to help with tidying up at home. Singing nursery rhymes Playing games like I spy Discussing shopping trips, cooking/ baking together Using scooter, bikes and walking places. Visiting adventure parks – using climbing equipment Fine motor skills – through cutting, painting, using play dough and so on. Encouraging your child to be independent in dressing, putting coat and shoes on.

8. Literacy Mathematical Development Understanding the world Exploring Arts and Design How you can support the Specific areas of learning at Home Drawing pictures of favourite stories and characters. Reading and sharing stories Talk about numbers on buses, door numbers, shapes you may see whilst out and about. Singing number songs and counting games. Cooking, baking & planting Taking care of a pet, discussing caring for babies or older adults in the family. Dressing up or playing and pretending to be in character – Role Play Opportunities to be creative with colour and different media.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage at St Joseph’s Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage -Prime areas of learning -Specific areas of learning We aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum based on the children’s interests. -We do this through observations of the children, play based learning opportunities and differentiated learning tasks supported by an adult in the setting. We build a profile of every child’s learning journey that starts in nursery and goes with the children to reception. -These will be available for you to look at during parents consultations.

What a day in Nursery looks like… Nursery Timetable 9.00 – 9.10 (10mins) Key Worker Time Welcome, Registration & Settling in. 9.10 – 9.15 (5mins) All chn on carpet for welcome Split into phonics groups x3 9.15 – 9.40 (25mins) Phonics Learning in Groups (MK to float between groups and support where necessary) 9.40 – 10.45 (1hr 5mins)Independent Learning Time & Adult Focus Tasks 10.45 – 11.30 (45mins) Rotational Snack Snack in Key Worker Groups x3 Including story time and Speaking & listening time 11.30 – 11.40 (10mins) Tidy up time 11.40 – 11.50 (10mins) Carpet Time 11.50 – 11.55 (5mins) Prayers and Preparing for home time – letters etc 11.55 – 12.00 (5mins) Key Worker Time Carpet & dismissal

11. What a day in Nursery looks like… The children have access to inside and outside play. Carpet sessions are for whole class teaching & learning time. Activities are set up to reflect the children’s interests and are planned to allow for independent play and adult supported tasks Snack times Prayers to end our day at school

Our Uniform & Expectations It is important that all children are dressed in the right school uniform -Maroon jogging bottoms -Maroon sweat shirt with school logo -White t- shirt with maroon trim -Black or white shoes with a Velcro strap -A school fleeced maroon coat Each item should be clearly labeled - including their coats. If children are not in the correct uniform a letter will be issued As part of our home school agreement we would like to remind all parents of NO: -Jewellery -Hair extensions, -Beads in hair, -Coloured hair bands etc. -That all children with long hair should have it tied back at all times! Please

14. Supporting you to support your Children further We have for you to take home today a ‘Parents’ Guide to the EYFS’ We will be starting library service after half term. There are a number of workshops for parents coming up over the year. Please check the letter you have and attend as many as you want. IF there are any other areas that you feel you would like support in then please let me know. How we can help

15. Library Service Children will borrow books from the book corner Library service will take place once a week on a Thursday starting after half term. To encourage children’s love for reading -We suggest that you use this book to read to your child, share it and enjoy it together. -We will record the date and the title in your ‘Reading Diary’ -please use this space to encourage your child to draw a picture about the story and as they progress through the year this could develop into writing words related to the stories they choose. -We will be sharing and celebrating your child’s effort in this book and award a stamp for every time your child records in their reading diary. Books will only be changed if you return them on Thursday.

16. Sharing WOW Moments! We would like you to share with us any ‘WOW’ moments you have with your child. These can include: Trips to parks Visits to zoos, farms, museums Brushing their teeth Looking after a pet But most importantly these should include learning moments! We will be celebrating your efforts and the children’s learning that takes place beyond nursery. 18. Supporting us to support your children We are keen for you to engage in dialogue as often as possible with your children So we are suggesting a Mobile Free Zone! This could include: - Cooking, - reading, - sharing a book, - helping maintain garden areas, - making resources - or any other suggestions you may have… there’s lots you can do to help.
