2. Chloroplasts  Chloroplasts are found in the cells of plants.  Chloroplasts absorb light energy and make food through photosynthesis.

3. Photosynthesis  Reactants: water and carbon dioxide  Products: glucose and oxygen 6CO 2 + 6H 2 O + light  C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6O 2

4. Chlorophyll  Chloroplasts contain a pigment called chlorophyll.  A pigment is a light-absorbing molecule.  Chlorophyll reflects green light and absorbs all other colors of light.

5. Thylakoids  Chloroplasts contain sack-like photosynthetic membranes called thylakoids.  Thylakoids are arranged in stacks called grana.  The light-dependent reactions occur in the thylakoids.

6. Stroma  The area outside the thylakoids is called the stroma.  The light-independent reactions occur in the stroma.
