3000-1500 BCE: Indus River Valley ► evidence from the ancient cities of Harappa & Mohenjo-daro ► brick buildings w/ bathrooms ► drainage systems ► farming & irrigation systems ► pictographic writing ► textiles, metals

2000-600 BCE: Aryan Conquests ► Aryans (light-skinned) invade the Indus Plain ► conquer the Dravidians (dark-skinned) ► Dravidians become a separate, inferior class ► Aryans occupy the entire northern plain ► Vedas = Aryan religious writings these teachings become part of Hinduism later on

521-367 BCE: Persian Rule in NW India ► Indus River region is annexed into King Darius’ Persian Empire ► This causes interaction between NW India & E. Mediterranean region Particularly Greece

326 BCE = NW India Conquered By Alexander the Great ► Persian Empire & NW India overtaken by Alexander, who comes from Greece ► Increases Greek influence in: trade government culture
