Groups & Chemical Properties Carbon chemical property of carbon is that it can create 4 covalent bonds. Carbon can connect itself along in amazing chains. Chains of Carbon capped-off with Hydrogen form "hydrocarbons" - a term we normally associate with substances we use as fuels. Silicon Chemical properties Silicon is a relatively inactive element at room temperature. It does not combine with oxygen or most other elements. Water, steam, and most acids have very little affect on the element. At higher temperatures, however, silicon becomes much more reactive. In the molten (melted) state, for example, it combines with oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, and other elements. It also forms a number of alloys very easily in the molten state. Germanium Tin chemical properties of Tin is relatively unaffected by both water and oxygen at room temperatures. It does not rust, corrode, or react in any other way. so used to coat other metals for protection. At higher temperatures, the metal reacts with both steam and oxygen. Lead
