Matter: -Anything that has mass or volume. It is the ‘stuff’ that makes up everything in the universe. Examples: Tulips (flowers) penguins (animals) rocks air

Properties of Matter: -a property is a characteristic that shows ownership or gives something its identity. -This is also true for matter. -Examples of properties are: color, state of matter, texture, flammability color texture State of matter (gas)

Properties of Matter: Physical Properties Def. Characteristics that can be observed without changing the identity of matter. Examples: 1. Color 2. Shape or Size 3. Mass, volume, density 4. Phase of matter (solid, liquid, gas) Chemical Properties Def. Characteristics that are based on the ability to change into a new substance. Examples: 1. Flammable (able to burn) 2. Reacts with vinegar 3. Reacts with oxygen (rusting) 4. Reacts with acid

Demonstration: Candle Physical PropertyChemical Property Melting wax - when it cools it will turn back into hard wax much like the original candle. Burning wick and candle being turned into carbon dioxide and water
