Chapter 17 - 17.3 Domains and Kingdoms
2
Domains There are 3 domains Eukarya Archaea Bacteria
3
Kingdoms There are 6 kingdoms in the 3 domains Archaea Bacteria
Protists Fungi Plantae Animalia
4
Domain Bacteria Characteristics of this domain are:
Bacteria that are prokaryotes (no nucleus) Cell wall contains peptidoglycan
5
Domain Archae Characteristics of this domain are:
Species thought to be more ancient than bacteria. Cell walls do not contain peptidoglycan. Called extremophiles because they live in extreme environments.
6
Domain Eukarya Characteristics of this domain are:
Cells with a membrane bound nucleus and membrane bound organelles. Includes the kingdoms plantae, animalia, fungi, and protista
7
Kingdom Protista Protists do not have organs
They are classified into three groups: Plant-like Animal-like Fungus-like
8
Kingdom Fungi Characteristics of Fungi
absorb nutrients from their environment. Heterotrophic Lack motility Have cell walls made of chiton
9
Kingdom Plantae Characteristics of Plantae multicellular Autotrophic
Lack motility Have cell walls made of cellulose
10
Kingdom Animalia Characteristics of Animalia multicellular
Heterotrophic No cell walls Complex organ systems
