Water Households buy water from water kiosks at prices 4 to 5 times higher than tariffs charged by Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company. Dilapidated pipes cause wastage and expose water to contamination.

KEY INNOVATIONS Community-led advocacy on the right to water and sanitation (alternative budgets, petitions, coalitions and international partnerships with agencies such as COHRE Demonstrating construction governance in which communities take the lead in planning, designing, costing, procuring and constructing. Using anaerobic technology that converts human waste into bio-gas and contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions. Community members holding monthly review meetings and accountability sessions Demonstrating successful partnerships among NGOs, local authority, water providers, international agencies, private sector and communities. Enhancing community ownership through promoting shareholding in urban water and sanitation services to enable members earn dividends and improve local economic development
