4.  Founder of the Progressive movement and was the dominant figure in American education  First real American influence on American education  Advocated child-centered learning in groups  Child-centered learning is an approach to education focusing on the interests of the students, rather than others involved in the educational system  Student-centered learning requires students to be active, responsible participants in their own learning EDUCATION
