3 Unit 14:The changing occupations Increase in service industries  In recent years, Hong Kong has become an important trade, tourist and financial centre.  The trade, restaurant and hotel industries are expanding rapidly and employing the greatest number of people.  People employed in finance, property and business industries are also increasing.  The service industries earn more income for Hong Kong than the manufacturing industries.  The increase in service industries may make up for the loss caused by the falling manufacturing industries. 5 Unit 14:The changing occupations Retraining workers  In 1992, the Labour Department set up the Employee Retraining Board.  It provides retraining courses for those laid-off unemployees.  They may have a better chance to find new jobs when they have acquired new skills.  Unemployment rate will fall.
