Grade 7 Integrated Studies

What is it? ▪ Class designed around the key philosophies of the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) program and Common Core State Standards. – Student-centered, project-based – Development of the whole child (intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills) – Self-reflective and globally minded students – Robust, relevant standards and skills – Critical analysis and communication – College and career readiness

What will be studied? Built around a series of themes: ▪ 1 st Trimester – How do I persevere through adversity to adapt and achieve growth? ▪ 2 nd Trimester – How does reflection contribute to change and growth? ▪ 3 rd Trimester – Who am I as an individual, and where do I want to go?

What will be studied? ▪ Collection of texts and media will be used. ▪ Units, lessons, and activities will cut across all disciplines/content areas—not a singular subject.

Staying Up-to-Date with Your Child’s Academic Progress ▪ PowerSchool – URL: http://powerschool.op97.orghttp://powerschool.op97.org – Fee balance, email notification, attendance, teacher comments, grade history – View the grade/score your child received on assignments, quizzes, tests, etc. – If letters or numbers are blue, there is a teacher comment. – If there are two hyphens (--) instead of a score, the teacher has not entered a score yet.

Staying Up-to-Date with Your Child’s Academic Progress ▪ Weekly Syllabus – Found on individual teacher pages – More comprehensive, accurate understanding of each week’s lessons and assignments – Assignments and due dates – Upcoming assessments, units of study, etc. – Announcements

Late Work Procedure ▪ If a student does not complete his or her homework, s/he will be given a missing homework slip. – Slip must be signed by parent. – Late work must be completed and turned in the next day with the signed slip. – If the above does not happen, student will need to attend the Friday homework detention.

Flexible Grouping ▪ Students are in placed in groups. ▪ Groups may change daily, weekly, or by unit depending on the following: – Concept mastery – Interest – Learning style – Brain dominance – Personal choice. ▪ Assignments and tasks will meet the unique needs of each student.
