Born in Austin, Minnesota on April 10, 1936 Grew up in Daly City, California Played High School football at Jefferson High school Played College football at Oregon , transferred to College of San Mateo and Cal Poly Played both Offense and Defense earning all-conference honors at Cal Poly

3 Playing Career Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles (21st Round 244th Overall) Suffered a Career ending knee injury in Training Camp

4 Coaching Career (College)
Began coaching career for Allan Hancock College in 1960 Promoted to Head coach in 1962 Hired as an Assistant Defensive Coach for San Diego State in Fred Dryer

5 Coaching Career (Professional)
Began coaching professional career for the AFL ‘s Oakland Raiders in 1967 After John Rauch resigned, Al Davis named John Madden the Head Coach Making John Madden the youngest Head Coach ever at 32

6 Coaching Career (Professional)
John Madden’s Raiders made it to the AFC Title game 5 times in 7 years In 1969, The Raiders lost 17-7 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the final American League Championship game In 1972, the Oakland Raiders would lose to the Pittsburg Steelers with help of the “Immaculate Catch”

8 Broadcasting Career John Madden started his broadcasting career in 1980 with CBS After starting off at the bottom, John Madden elevated up the ranks to the networks best teaming up with Tom Brookshier in 1981 Madden’s last game with CBS was on January 23, 1994 He would begin working with fox the next season, earning $32 million in 4 years

9 Broadcasting Career After his appearance during Super Bowl XXXVI, Madden announced that he will leave fox and join ABC’s Monday Night Football, with Al Michaels In 2005, John Madden joined the cast of NBC’s Sunday Night Football John Madden announced his retirement from NFL broadcasting on April 16, 2009
