How to Draw the Face
2
The face is the feature which best distinguishes a person.
3
When you begin drawing your portrait you must look, and measure carefully the relationship between the sizes of parts of the head - the eyes, nose, mouth and ears.
4
This is called PROPORTION
5
Taking time to do it well will improve your portrait and make it look more like you!
6
Then, using TONE, you will show the form of the face.
7
The form and structure or how the face is formed is also important.
8
The first layer of the face is the skeleton or skull
9
Muscle and cartilage is then formed on top of the skull
10
The final layer, the layer we see, is skin and hair
11
Let's get started by measuring the proportions of the face.
12
Each group will measure, in turn, a real person, to try to find the correct position of the features of the face - eyes, nose, mouth and ears.
13
The group will then mark down on a basic face shape where they think the features should go.
14
Good luck! You will need rulers, pen/pencils, and a basic face shape.
