Let Me See You 1-2 Step Two-Step Algebraic Equations
2
Today’s Vocabulary Two-Step Equations Coefficient Constant
3
Two Step Equations Two-Step Equations are equations that require two-steps to solve. You will ADD or SUBTRACT and then MULTIPLY or DIVIDE. 3x + 8 = 29
4
Coefficient Coefficient – The number that is attached to a variable 3x + 8 = 29 Coefficient
5
Coefficient To get rid of the coefficient, you will either MULTIPY or DIVIDE
6
Constant The constant is the number that is not attached to a variable. It MUST be on the same side of the equal sign as the variable. 3x + 8 = 29 Coefficient Constant
7
Constant To get rid of the constant, you will either ADD or SUBTRACT You get rid of the constant FIRST!!
8
4x + 12 = 20
9
6x + 3 = 154 -17x + 2 = -8 5x + 15 = 24 -7x - 11 = 33 4x - 13 = -63 -8x + -12 = -20 Label the Coefficient and the Constant
10
How do I solve two-step equations? To solve two-step equations, you do order of operations in REVERSE This means that you do addition or subtraction FIRST
11
Reverse order of operations? What does that mean? Isn’t there an easier way to understand this?
12
How do I solve two-step equations? To solve two-step equations, you get rid of the constant FIRST This means that you do addition or subtraction FIRST
13
4x + 12 = 28 Two-Step Equations Which number do I “get rid of” first? What operation do I do? What number do I “get rid of” next? What operation do I do?
14
3x - 5 = 7 Two-Step Equations Which number do I “get rid of” first? What operation do I do? What number do I “get rid of” next? What operation do I do?
15
6x + 12 = 24 Two-Step Equations Which number do I “get rid of” first? What operation do I do? What number do I “get rid of” next? What operation do I do?
16
-2x - 4 = 10 Two-Step Equations What number do I “get rid of” next? What operation do I do?
17
2x + 4 = -10 Two-Step Equations Which number do I “get rid of” first? What operation do I do? What number do I “get rid of” next? What operation do I do?
18
-5x + 12 = 32 Two-Step Equations What operation do I do? What number do I “get rid of” next? What operation do I do?
19
-3x + 6 = 27 Two-Step Equations Which number do I “get rid of” first? What operation do I do? What number do I “get rid of” next? What operation do I do?
20
-9x + 9 = -18 Two-Step Equations What operation do I do? What number do I “get rid of” next? What operation do I do?
21
6x + 12 = 18 Two-Step Equations
22
5x - 15 = 20 Two-Step Equations
23
-8x + 10 = 42 Two-Step Equations
