WHAT IS A PREPOSITION? Definition: A preposition connects a noun to other words and shows the relationship between them.

COMMON PREPOSITIONS Some common prepositions include: about, above, across, after, behind, below, beneath, beside, during, except, for, from, in, of, over, through, to, under, up, with

PREPOSITIONS USED IN A SENTENCE common prepositions The cat is hiding behind the couch. Your sock is under your bed. If you look through a microscope, you can see all of the different minerals inside a rock. compound prepositions In front of the tree is a large rock. My hat is on top of my dresser. Next to my neighbors house is my own.

PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES A prepositional phrase is a group of words that begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun, called the object of the preposition Here are some prepositional phrases: at home, before dinner, beyond the horizon, inside the haunted house, according to the rules, on top of the misty mountains The prepositions in these sentences are: at, before, beyond, inside, according, on
