Adaptations and traits of Organisms Final Assessment-Animal Power Point By: Beabe Duncan My animal: A cat

MammalsMammalsMammalsMammals Mammals have fur or hair Mammals are warm-blooded Mammals give live birth Mammals feed young from the females body Mammals have a backbone Example: A BABY! :D

Reptiles Reptiles have a backbone Reptiles have scaly skin Reptiles lay little eggies Reptiles are cold-blooded Reptiles have lungs Example: A crocodile

Fish Fish are cold-blooded Fish lay little eggsies Fish breath through gills Fish have fins and scales Fish live in water Example: Puffer Fish

Birds Birds are warm-blooded Birds lay eggs Birds have a back bone Birds have lungs and breath air Birds have two legs, two wings, and also a beak Example: An angry Ostrich

Amphibians Amphibians are cold-blooded Amphibians have a backbone Amphibians absorb air through skin but also have lungs as an adult Amphibians have moist-skin & no scales Example: A Green Lizard

Adaptation Adaption to me is thinking about, cold-blooded animals. They can go in hot and cold. Adapting to hot weather to humans is like going swimming, in cold weather, we get big coats on!Adapting means to change to be able to survive in your surroundings.

Differ between Species adaptation & Individual adaptation Species adaptation: Species adaptation is for the whole species Example: A cat has a tail Individual adaptation: Individual adaptation is for one cat Example: A cat learned to role over

Camouflage Camouflage: Camouflage is (something you wear or your skin) something you use to blend in. NOT to be seen. Example: The Chameleon changes its colors so it can blend in.

Mimicry Mimicry: Mimicry is something that makes you seem bigger or smaller or scarier. Bluffing is another word for it. Example: The Swallowtail Caterpillar uses Mimicry to look like a snake.

Hibernation Hibernation: Hibernation is when it gets cold an animal sleeps a long time and doesn’t come out Example: A bear sleeps the whole winter because its too cold.

Migration Migration: Migration is when animals leave to a different spot for the winter because it is too cold.(In the winter) Example: Birds fly south for the winter.

Genetics and Heredity Genetics look funny, Genetics are the study of Heredity. Heredity is the passing on of physical or mental characteristics genetically from one generation to another. DNA Stands For: Deoxyribonucleic acid Unless mutations occur

Inherited traits Inherited traits are from your older family members. Like if I have black hair and so does my dad, that’s an inherited trait!

Acquired traits Acquired traits are when you dye your hair red. Like if I had black hair from my dad and dyed it red.

Fossils are preserved remains or traces of animals, plants, and other things during the dinosaur period.

Introducing, my animal the… The cat is an amazing animal. Its cute and its an excellent feline friend! If I were to be asked “cats or dogs?” I would pick CATS! I have a few my self. Cats are a very interesting animal. They fall into the Mammals, category. Cats are very flexible. They can jump super high and they always land right on there feet! They can run fast to. Their senses are 43x better then humans. Some of my cats have a lot of extra toes. Its weird but its makes them a bit cuter.

Environment of a Cat A tiger or a cheetah live in the jungle or a desert. Most big cats wouldn’t do well if you took them out of their natural habitats. Most smaller cats are house cats as pets. Most house cats wouldn’t do well if they were put in the wild, they weren't very independent.

Characteristics Most kittens would get the pattern or color of fur from the Mom cat or Dad cat. If the mom had extra toes and so did the dad, the kitten would have extra toes! Most blue eyed kittens don’t keep their blue eyes.

Structure and Function The Structure of a cat could be its sandpaper tongue. The function is to get all the loose hair and clean its self easier.

Did you know that the average house cat can live up to 5-7 years!? Did you know that a cats senses are 43x better then ours?? Did you know that cats always land on their four-feet when they fall or jump? SOME CATS DON’T HAVE TAILS! This cat thinks everything's funny -.-
