Accomplishments over the past year  Solicited three new nominations for the 2014 IS award cycle  Put forth nomination package for Sebastian Thrun  Conducted selection process and selected Heinz Ergberger as the IS award winner  Reviewed and updated best IS paper award procedures  Selected candidate papers for best IS paper award Challenges/Observations  Planning for multiple awards revolved around Infotech@Aerospace requires time and commitments – need to develop schedules to track progress  Current process is centralized and mostly driven by one or two people - need to involve subcommittee members to increase effectiveness  Increase transparency – ensure selections are made with inputs from subcommittee members and TC chair. What are your goals for next year?  Rename IS Award to IS Technical Excellence Award?  Implement web-based form for collecting future IS nominees  Review and update award procedures  Develop plan to solicit nominees for next IS award cycle  Develop plan for best IS paper award  Work with student paper competition track chair for I@A to ensure best-in-session papers are selected at the next I@A  Develop plan for ISTC distinguished service award  Develop plan to improve subcommittee functions  Miguel Morales  Robert Savely  James Steck  Nhan Nguyen  Chelsea Sabo

2 Award Subcommittee Lessons Learned from 2014 Intelligent Systems Award We have named this award the same as a high-level AIAA honor award… rename!! If an award cycle is skipped, all the carry-over nominees are no longer eligible for the next award cycle Ensure that we always have at least one new nominee for each award cycle When identifying a potential nominator, find out if he/she is an AIAA member since only AIAA members are eligible to make nomination AIAA members can nominate a nominee whom they don’t know, but consider to contact nominee to work with them to strengthen the nomination package Have a pool of good candidates to go to when problems develop with one of the nominations Develop a schedule to track nomination process Establish a selection panel in advance to save time
