COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS FOR MMS July 17th, 2013 Team 3 Anna, Deb, Hubert, Ken
2
Organizations Mass. Medical Society (http://massmed.org) Genentech (http://www.gene.com/)http://www.gene.com/ Mihealth (https://mihealth.com/)https://mihealth.com/ Jane Doe Inc. (http://www.janedoe.org/)http://www.janedoe.org/
3
Purpose Mass. Medical Society: Clear from physician’s perspective, not as obvious for patients Genentech: Clear tab on the menu though patients may not search for this website Mihealth: Very clear, big font, screams out at you Jane Doe Inc.: Very clear, pop-up to ensure client safety
4
Users MMS: “Patient Care” Genentech: Very clear “for _______” Mihealth: Very clear “for ______” Jane Doe Inc.: Clear upper-left orientation
5
Branding MMS: Great logo, great tagline, name makes it clear that it’s a professional organization Genentech: “Go ahead, experiment” Unclear, tagline fun, simple, but somewhat hidden Mihealt: Obvious tagline (A better approach – Discover a smart, secure approach to care) Jane Doe Inc.: “Building safer communities”, mission right underneath the tagline with the three key values (safety, liberty, and dignity) bolded
6
External affiliations MMS: Affiliates at bottom left, we wonder if having NEJM affiliation more obvious would “impress” the average person Genentech: “A member of the Roche group” Mihealth: Canada Health Infoway certified Jane Doe Inc.: LOTS of ext. affiliates on the bottom NO ADS on any of these sites
7
Mobile MMS: Responsive, too much text, needs more visuals Genentech: Visually very appealing, easy to navigate Mihealth: Does not seem to have a mobile-friendly version, the website does work on a mobile device, but the text appears really small Jane Doe Inc.: Sometimes does not load, and also does not have a mobile-friendly version
8
Social media and user participation MMS: FB minimal user participation, lack of updates, 3- 5 likes per post, more frequent twitter updates Genentech: Very targeted and specific towards prospective employees, post very frequently about why working there is awesome Mihealth: Difficulty locating it on FB manually, but a link on the website works, mainly Twitter-driven content, only 50 likes Jane Doe Inc: Has 720 likes, well-rounded content (mostly news articles, advocacy updates, and personal stories) that are applicable to the users (e.g. notes on safety planning guide), lots of retweets on Twitter

10
What to borrow Usability: - Power of UL corner - Clearly stated mission, values, - Ease of navigation: 1-2-3 steps Stronger branding as seen on JaneDoe website Genentech’s large, visual, responsive design
11
What to avoid Broken links, website that does not load Hard to find facebook page Auto-facebook posts from twitter Advertising (not seen here anyway) Up for discussion: User participation (risk to reputation, resources to manage content?)
