1 You Are the 1980s Expert… Each class will be divided into 10 groups of 2-4 students. Each group will be responsible for creating a power point and oral presentation on one year of the 1980s (80-89). Each power point will have a title slide and 9 informational slides covering both required and optional topics. Any information, visual, movie clip, etc. used in a slide must have a url address cited on the slide. Each group member is responsible for explaining an equal amount of the power point to the class during the oral presentation.

6 Optional Topics Guidelines – You must include at least 7 other slides from your year. Two sensational or current event slides consisting of a headline-grabbing event from your year. A new product or innovation slide from your year, including a commercial if applicable. An entertainment slide consisting of a popular song, movie (not R rated), and TV show from your year. A sports slide including at least 3 memorable sporting events from your year. A fashion slide consisting of examples of popular fads or trends from your year.

8 How to Summarize Each Topic Who was involved in the event? What happened in the event? Why did it happen? When did it happen? How did it impact the 1980’s? After summarizing the topics you are responsible for in the power point, pull the key dates, names, and information to place on the slide. Each slide must have an image with url address and a maximum of 36 words. DO NOT copy and paste paragraphs into a slide. Linking other images, clips, sounds, etc. should be done using the icons provided. Summarizing will help you learn the material for the oral presentation part of the project. Simply reading the slide will not be enough.

10 Timetable Each group will have 3 days to create your power point and learn the material for the oral presentation. Oral Presentations will be done in 2 to 2 ½ days. Presentations should be a maximum of 10 minutes. A culminating quiz will be given over the required events and materials from the first two days of the 1980’s unit.
