5 History of the University In 1871 the Arkansas Industrial University was established in Fayetteville. It was the first state university. On January 22 nd 1872, the first classes were held. In 1899 Arkansas Industrial University became the University of Arkansas.

6 History (cont.) In 1948 the university became the first public institution in the south to integrate. The Carnegie Foundation placed the university among the top two percent nationwide.

7 Radiologic Sciences (emphasis in Diagnostic Medical Sonography) My plan is to achieve my basic classes and receive my associates degree at the University of Arkansas. After receiving my associates degree I plan on transferring to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences At UAMS I plan on receiving a degree in radiology with the goal of being an Ultrasound Technician.

8 Some background in natural sciences, algebra and basic physics are usually requirements. In order to be an Ultrasound Technician some of the required classes are; – Anatomy – Physiology – Medical Ethics – Physics – Patient Care Most programs take 1-2 years to finish.

9 History of the Razorback The University of Arkansas’ mascot was originally a cardinal, based on the cardinal red school color. After the 16-0 win over Louisiana State Football, Coach Bezdek made the first statement comparing his players to, “a wild band of Razorback hogs.” The following year the student body voted to change the school mascot from the cardinal to the razorback.
