The eruption destroyed 2 large cities near by. The eruption covered the two cities with more than 20 feet of volcanic debris. This volcanic eruption is considered one of the most dangerous eruptions ever to occur. The eruption killed over 2,000 people in the villages nearby.

5.  Mount Vesuvius is a composite volcano. The volcano is very tall and steep. The volcano is formed by many layers of lava, ash, and other particles, and rocks.  Mt. Vesuvius is/was the only active volcano on the continent of Europe.
