What is McDonaldization? McDonaldization is the process in which a company starts to model themselves after McDonald’s. They do everything in a precise way and work accordingly to a specific set of standards.

Efficiency Efficiency- Functioning in the best possible way with very little to know waste of time and or effort. A hypermarket Ex. Tire & Lube Express, Pharmacy, Optical Centre, Cell phone stores, etc. Their mission: complete any needed tasks without leaving the store Multiple Check-out lanes & departments Energy efficiency Water Conserving Sinks How does this relate to McDonaldization?

Calculability Calculability-This is the aspect of a McDonalized company that says products are produced and sold according to a particular set of standards. Clothes Groceries Electronics Garden

Predictability Predictability- what you can expect to see in every Walmart Express Lanes Prices Different smaller businesses within Walmart itself Open 24/7 How does this relate to McDonaldization?

Control Control- Putting restraint on the direction in which the company takes Heat and air conditioning controlled by Tennessee. Wal-Mart has control over their customers because they decide what products they are going to sell and carry in their stores Wal-Mart has control over their employees due to the fact there is no union. Wal-Mart even has control over other countries who are making the products. When they lower prices here, they lower working wages somewhere else. How does this relate to McDonaldization?

How to deal with McDonaldization in Walmart Walmart should work accordingly to a set of rules and standards that they devise themselves. This would back away from a McDonald’s type of system.

Rational or Irrational ? That is the question. Walmart is irrational and rational. Self-checkout and hypermarket system are examples how Walmart is irrational. Although, Walmart is rational because they match prices, have a common goal of a prosperous business, and are dependable to customers.
