Objectives of the Workshop Start preparing for EHIS Wave 2 –Based on analysis of wave 1 results –Content, sampling and fieldwork aspects Focus on EHIS EU variables/questions (possibilities for national questions to be added) Workshop to come with concrete recommendations to be taken on board for wave 2

Content of Wave 2 survey Variables/questions - Criteria to be used to select variables/questions: Policy relevance (link to an EU policy; used to produce indicators) No overlap with other data sources (except if cross- analysis needed with other EHIS variables) Avoid low frequency variable Suitability for cross European comparability Core social variables

Content of Wave 2 survey Policy relevance: Collection of data needed in the context of: –The Lisbon and EU-2020 strategies: The Structural Indicator Healthy Life Year (HLY); The Open Method of Coordination (OMC) on Health and long term care –The public health European action plan of DG SANCO of the Commission The European Community Health Indicators (ECHI) –Health inequalities

Content of Wave 2 survey Variables/questions – changes controlled: Do not reinvent the wheel Focus on problematic questions in wave 1 (in particular mental health, alcohol consumption, physical activity) Include BI-Mark II as much as possible Adapt filters/answering categories Variables needed at regional level Ex-ante harmonisation: survey based on a common list of variables plus a model questionnaire (face-to-face)

Wave 2: Sampling and fieldwork aspects Implemented every five years –from 2014 (possible derogation: 2013): based on a legal framework All modules in one survey (link at micro-level) Flexibility of implementation at national level but common guidelines in terms of: –Sampling; –Mode of collection; –Weighting/imputation.
