3 The Government Triumvirate – A system of government with three people sharing power Julius Caesar – Declared “Dictator” in 45 BCE –Assassinated for potentially ruling like a king Octavian (Augustus) defeats Marc Antony after Caesar’s death

4 The Life of a Roman Plebeians housing lacks windows and running water Food consists mainly of grains, vegetables and watered-down wine Wedding traditions include a ring on the left ring finger, “tying the knot”, bride wears white, cake eating, nut tossing, and torch throwing
