TWO BROAD WORD TYPES: Words that can be broken into smaller words. Such as undone, thinking, unwritten, playful Words that cannot be broken down ( base words). Such as done, think, write, play

W ORD P ARTS Words that can be broken are made up of 2 or more of the 3 parts 1. Roots - origin 2. Prefixes – letters added to beginning 3. Suffixes – letters added to end

W HY WOULDN ’ T WE TRY PREFIXES ?! 1. co- ; com- 2. de- 3. dis- 4. em- ; en- 5. pro- Hint: You’re doing the same thing today that you did with the roots. Look up 3 words that use this prefix, and study the definitions to see what they have in common. Then, come up with “your definition” of the prefix.
